Of course, Nikon Camera Control Pro is also integrated with Nikon's photofinishing software Capture NX. You can control a huge amount camera settings including the exposure mode, shutter speed, and aperture. The main problem that users complain of is that this software doesn't update itself automatically properly. In the case of those on Mac OS X version 10.3.9 this is a good thing however as Nikon Camera Control Pro is no longer supported so DO NOT update to this version if you are currently running Mac OS X 10.3.9.
This download is for version 2.0 but the latest version is 2.5.0 which is only available as an updater standalone download. If you are automatically prompted to update to version 2.5.0 when you install 2.0, do not if you are using Mac OS X 10.3.9. Mac OS X version 10.3.9 is no longer supported. In the latest version:Support for the D300S been added. An issue that caused Camera Control Pro 2 to stop responding (freeze) when a RAW image captured by a D1X camera was selected in the Viewer has been resolved. When images were captured with Rotate all downloaded images by 90 degrees CCW or Rotate all downloaded images by 90 degrees CW enabled and displayed in the Viewer, thumbnails may not have been displayed, or Camera Control Pro 2 may have quit unexpectedly. This issue has been resolved.
There are many options available - everything from free software that may already be included with your camera, to super-charged programs incorporating all your post-production needs into one package, to very unique and specific features for a particular shooting requirement.
The Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.28 is a powerful software to control Nikon SLR series cameras. It has an intuitive user interface with friendly options that enhance the usage of the application. With this powerful application, you can control the Nikon SLR series cameras through both wireless or wired connection to the computer. It also provides the ability to control the cameras remotely and perform different management operations. Adjust and manage the exposure, aperture, shutter speed, and a variety of other settings. A raw file contains the "raw" data captured by the digital camera sensor before it has been converted to JPEG or TIFF formats. Cameras that create JPEG or TIFF files process (and in the case of JPEG files, compress) the sensor data. When working with raw files, the file is not compressed or processed in the camera. Instead, software gives the user complete control over the conversion settings. For example, white balance is not applied to the raw file but is stored with the file so the software can default to the originally-intended setting. Other information contained in a DNG file includes standard EXIF metadata (just like in JPEG files), date, time, camera used, and camera settings.
Digital Negative (DNG) is an openly published raw file specification that stores the "raw" pixel data captured by the digital camera sensor before it has been converted to JPEG or TIFF formats, along with standard EXIF metadata, date, time, camera used, and camera settings. This format is freely available for other software and hardware vendors to support.
Unlike most manufacturer-specific raw formats, the Digital Negative is an openly published specification that not only is supported by Adobe, but is also freely available for other software and hardware vendors to support. Consequently, it can be a safer file format to use for long-term archival purposes. Archiving your file as a digital negative eliminates worries that the raw file will no longer be readable once the camera format that created it becomes obsolete.
Multi-Camera Control allows you to fully control and synchronise all your cameras simultaneously, including camera settings, triggering, live view, photo download and filename management.
CaptureGRID allows you to connect and control a large number of cameras, by splitting the USB connections across multiple computers. This means the number of cameras is not limited by the USB hardware capabilities of a single computer, but instead can be scaled up by adding more computers.
For example, dedicated TriggerBox and lighting hardware from ESPER can be combined with CaptureGRID for a complete 3D capture system. In this scenario the Esper components take care of precise triggering and lighting, and CaptureGRID handles sychronisation of camera settings, automatic photo download, and filename management.
CaptureGRID can be integrated with an external system by using the External API feature. This provides two key channels of communication that you can hook into, to listen to a stream of event information coming from the app, and to send requests to the app to control the cameras.
The app itself has scripting support for automating the control of the cameras. There are some built-in scripts provided with app, for tasks such as bracketting, HDR, and timelapse, and you can write your own using Python.
Your digital camera and Mac can work together to capture images as well as display them. Many DSLRs, and a handful of compacts, have the ability to shoot tethered, which means you connect a camera to your Mac via a USB cable, then control the camera remotely. With this kind of setup you can save files directly to your hard drive, preview the images on the computer screen, and even control your camera from an iPhone.
An iPhone or iPod touch can also be used as a remote control for tethered Canon and Nikon DSLRs, using one of my favorite iPhone apps called DSLR Camera Remote by onOne Software. Download the application to your iPhone, install the free server software on your Mac, and fire everything up.
Finally, if you're looking for a free raw converter for Nikon NEF files produced by the Z cameras, you should consider Capture One Express for Nikon. This reduced feature set version leaves out the tethered shooting capabilities and many advanced editing features, but provides a solid basic raw conversion capability.
Connect your camera to the computer with a USB cable and fire up the program, and you have full access to almost all camera controls. You can have the viewfinder image live on your computer monitor and you can focus and expose manually or automatically and see the result directly on your computer screen.
Once you have set up your camera, you can control it wirelessly using a smartphone or a tablet. Both iPhones, iPads, Android devices and other devices that can run a web browser are supported. You can even use a second remote computer (Mac, pc, Unix or whatever) to control and release the camera.
Today, Nikon announced the release of NX STUDIO (Ver.1.0), a new all-in-one software which enables seamless viewing, processing and editing of still images and video captured with a Nikon digital camera. The new software is available to download for free beginning today.
