I’m planning to upgrade my outdoor space, and one of my main goals is to create a proper garden patio area. For those who’ve built or renovated patios, what materials and designs worked best for you? Options like slabs, decking, gravel, tiles, or composite boards all seem useful, but I’m unsure which holds up best over time.

I’d also love to know how much of the work can be done DIY and what absolutely needs professional help. Did you level the ground yourself? How did you handle drainage? And what additions—like lighting, seating, or planters—completed the look?
